Day 2: Art Imitates Life

The glamorous tent in the parking lot

It’s not exactly a circus and it’s definitely not summer camp, but there are many many similarities to both. Load In Day at Design Miami. Seeing and hugging old friends, jockeying for leadership, rampant disdain, false jollity and fork lifts. These are just a few of Bloss’s favorite things. See that crate just on the other side of the truck? That’s ours. And look below, that’s Murray in the back of our big white booth. Isn’t it wonderfully sort of unborn and just waiting?

Is your head a little chilled? Otto hats to the rescue. Yes, sniffles, it’s Kika time!

Celebrity Knitter Kika Schoenfeld spent the summer knitting her elegant little fingers down to nubs creating the 2011 edition of Otto hats, in wool, Alpaca and cashmere, with fabulous Finnish fox and American mink pompoms. Each outrageous Otto is hand made and unique. Just like you, my dear. The sizing may be a tad abitraire, as they say uptown, so you really need to come into the gallery to try them on. And believe Bloss when we say you will not leave empty-headed. Well, not empty on top, we mean. Oh, never mind.

Iconic Eames lounge makeover x 2. In the Times today

Once again on the cutting edge of so much, really, Moss, with pal Maharam, shows you how to make the perfect even better. It’s all explained here in a piece in the Times today. Click the ottoman to read.

M day. US launch of the MUTEWATCH. From quiet Sweden.

The MUTEWATCH is everything you want in a watch, plus less. Because it doesn’t make any noise. No irritating ticking and when the alarm goes off, to remind you to go to bed or something, the watch vibrates on your wrist. But in a good way. On sale now. Supplies are limited. Don’t be the only one in your bookclub with an old fashioned ticker.

Yo, it’s party time, for the US launch of the very very quiet Mutewatch, and yes there will be mimes.

Everybody loves mimes, right? Well, some people love mimes, surely. Okay, okay, nobody actually even likes mimes, but at least there won’t be balloon animals. Or clowns. And there will be all those quiet watches. They just vibrate to get your attention. Like you know who.

You must RSVP to get in. Don’t just show up or the doormime won’t let you in.

Curiously, the prostitutes themselves preferred gold and diamonds

According to Susanne Klemm, the REDLIGHT jeweler. She said, last night at the Case Side chat at Moss, that her Amsterdam redlight district workspace still had a bed in it when she moved all her studio tools in. Ewwwwwww. And the working girls were still around during the year she worked there and she tried to interest them in her contemporary jewelry, but they weren’t into it. Unlike the working girls (and guys) in attendance at the chat. Look at them. Rapt. Wouldn’t you be? Sweetheart rings here.

Glow, swipe and vibrate. Oh, honey.

That’s the Mutewatch catchy catch-phrase. If only we all could do those things, the world would be a better place. However, what they are referring to is how you use your Mutewatch. Tap for the time to glow (look below), and if you swipe the surface, something else fabulous happens, and vibrate, well, you can just imagine. Bloss told you red was coming and here it is.

Hey sweetheart, ring me.

Did you see the piece in the Times today about cameos? Apparently, they’re all the hipster rage. Well, we got our own cameos. Sweetheart Rings by Susanne Klemm, Dutch artist and jewelry maker. These are part of her “Red Light” collection, which, continuing our popular prostitute theme, was created when her studio was in the red light district of Amsterdam. We do not make these things up. Here a couple more.

Another opening of another show, at Moss, Tuesday

Yes, little design mites, it’s time once again for the annual fall exhibition opening night at Moss. Here’s a preview of the we’re-only-interested-in-the-new-work crowd that usually shows up. They’re not really there for the wine or for the chance to hook up. No, siree. They’ll be coming for The Great Plains, as the show is called. Short hand for lots of tables (large flat surfaces) in plain colors. Plus many other treats. Like, well, the wine.
