Design Miami Day 4: the handwriting’s on the wall

Turns out writing on the booth walls by hand is more radical a move than one might suspect. It’s been causing a small ruckus.

We just thought it might be a nice change from endless and tasteful vinyl. Besides we kept thinking up new things to write as we were installing.

Well, we’re ready. But is Design Miami ready for us?

Day 2: Art Imitates Life

The glamorous tent in the parking lot

It’s not exactly a circus and it’s definitely not summer camp, but there are many many similarities to both. Load In Day at Design Miami. Seeing and hugging old friends, jockeying for leadership, rampant disdain, false jollity and fork lifts. These are just a few of Bloss’s favorite things. See that crate just on the other side of the truck? That’s ours. And look below, that’s Murray in the back of our big white booth. Isn’t it wonderfully sort of unborn and just waiting?

Think of it as high design

A welcome addition to any living room or den. Yes, it’s a giant pot seed sculpture. Bound to elicit comment and discussion. Put it on the mantle and have your parents come over. Or your minister. Or parole officer. And if you’re in a gift giving mode, you can be almost certain they won’t already have one.

Iconic Eames lounge makeover x 2. In the Times today

Once again on the cutting edge of so much, really, Moss, with pal Maharam, shows you how to make the perfect even better. It’s all explained here in a piece in the Times today. Click the ottoman to read.

Murray at 10 Downing Street, relaxing after helping the Prime Minister solve some terrible design crisis

Now it can be told: there was a moment or two of down time during that V&A installation thing, during which Murray was whisked to 10 Downing for ultra secret design consultation and wetwork for Her Majesty’s government. The Official Design Secrets Act forbids Bloss from telling you what it involved. Trust us, though, the empire is better for his intervention. And here he is, afterward, entertaining a few new acquaintances over a glass or two. You can never tell when his design expertise will be called upon. He is available to governments everywhere. Murray presents WSJ award to Joris Laarman, misses the mimes!

Unbelievably, Murray Moss was AWOL when the mimes were doing the Mutewatch Boogie down at Moss on Thursday. He was, as they say, uptown. Well, midtown, to be precise, at MoMA, hanging with Carl Icann and Marc Jacobs (now there’s a duo to reckon with), at the Wall Street Journal Innovators Award gala thing. His job was to present to Joris, who despite being Dutch, is famously NOT represented by Moss. No point in holding a grudge. These and many other pics from the Billy Farrell Agency, where you will be taken if you click them.

Curiously, the prostitutes themselves preferred gold and diamonds

According to Susanne Klemm, the REDLIGHT jeweler. She said, last night at the Case Side chat at Moss, that her Amsterdam redlight district workspace still had a bed in it when she moved all her studio tools in. Ewwwwwww. And the working girls were still around during the year she worked there and she tried to interest them in her contemporary jewelry, but they weren’t into it. Unlike the working girls (and guys) in attendance at the chat. Look at them. Rapt. Wouldn’t you be? Sweetheart rings here.

3D printed prostitute shoes. Can you stand it?

This is the Melonia shoe, 14 pairs of which currently surround the hot and sexy Bed of Ware at the Victoria & Albert Museum, as part of the big 3D printing installation we’ve been writing about. For some reason, this is everyone’s favorite part of the show. Prostitute shoes. Go figure. But get this, friends with feet, this shoe is also totally wearable by non-prostitutes! Yes, yes, it’s true. You, too, could be stepping into the future. Available at Moss in November. Click the pic for more detail on the exhibit.
